Over the last few years, my mentor, Matt Jarvis, taught me about personal biorhythms and I learned that every quarter I need at least a few days off to recharge, focus on self care, and digitally detox.
Now that we're in quarantine, how many of us have just skipped the days off and rolled right into working 7 days a week? It's hard to turn off when your office and living space have become one.
Don't forget that we still need downtime and what this looks like for you might be different than what it looks like for your colleagues (and that's ok). Be the kind of boss who brings this up today and supports some time off for your team - in whatever form that looks like. They will return to work more recharged, focused, and creative.
And remember, right now most people feel the need to proactively get permission to take time off and aren't in a place where they feel comfortable asking for it. Be the boss who recommends it. Your team will appreciate it more than you think.

Over the past few months there have been good days, bad days, rough days, and optimistic days. Days that feel like weeks and days that feel like an hour. Today is a hard day in the marketing world, so today I'm going to let myself be sad. But, tomorrow I'm going to go back to optimism, and the hope and belief that at the end of all of this we will be better, stronger, more thoughtful, innovative, creative and shine brighter than we ever have before.

As a PR professional for 20+ years, this pandemic feels like the crisis messaging of 9/11, the financial rock bottom of 2008/2009, and the uncertainty of our future in 2016.
It's a tough time as we all look inward at ourselves and our purpose, but are also responsible for guiding strategic positioning for some of the most influential brands in the world. Don't forget, we are human. We are going to make mistakes, but we're doing the best we can and we're all in this together.
